Sukkur IBA University Assignment Submission (Sample)

Task 01: Cloud Storage

There are a number of cloud storage services (such as ADrive, Microsoft
SkyDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, and Box) designed to allow individuals to back up files online and share
specific files with others; specialty online storage services designed for digital photo sharing include
Flickr, Photobucket, and Snapfish.
For this task, visit at least three cloud storage sites designed for backup and file exchange, and at least
two sites designed for digital photo sharing. You can try the sites listed above or use a search site to
find alternative sites.
1. Tour your selected sites to determine the features each service offers, the cost, the amount of
storage space available, and the options for sending uploaded files to others.
2. Do the sites password-protect your files, or are they available for anyone with an Internet connection
to see?
3. What are the benefits for using these types of storage services?
4. Can you think of any drawbacks?
5. Would you want to use any of the storage sites you visited? Why or why not?
6. At the conclusion of this task, prepare a short summary of your findings.

1) GOOGLE DRIVE:

It is a file storage and synchronization service that was developed by Google in the year 2012. [1]
(1.1)
 User can store photos, video files, audio files, stories and anything.
 It also provides functionality of directly converting your captured photo into pdf format and
stores it for future use.
 It gives you 15 Gega Bytes (15GB) of free storage, there are also premium plans for users in
need of more space. This plan includes.
o 100 GB space (209 PKR/month)
o 1 TB space (1049 PKR/month)
o 10 TB space (10499 PKR/month)
o 20 TB space (20999 PKR/month)
o 30 TB space (31499 PKR/month)
 Thus, it gives storage service from 15 GB to 30 TB.
 Google drive user can easily share his / her file with other users through email. Whereas the
client has access to view or download shared file depending on owner settings. The only
condition is that both the user and client must have google drive associated with their email
id’s.

(1.2)
Yes, GOOGLE DRIVE password-protect user’s files. User has to login with his specified Google
drive id and password (that is associated with Google mail as well) thus anyone having internet
connection cannot see the file until and unless user has permitted him.
(1.3)
Google drive provides multiple functionalities and benefits as well. One doesn’t need to worry
about accessing his data while he is going away from his home, user can access his/ her data
from any corner of the world. Moreover, one can directly save his email attachments ( i.e.: photos,
videos, audio anything) by just clicking on Google drive hovering functionality. [1]
(1.4)
It is beneficial for users that have comparatively short data stored on drive like 15 GB, 100 GB or
1TB. But exceeding this criteria, the price per month increases a lot. So, if one has a very heavy
amount of data like 20 or 30TB then it’ll become very costly for him, he should then think for other
source for saving his money.

2) A DRIVE:

(2.1)
It is a cloud service that securely and remotely saves user’s data in ADRIVE CLOUD.
 It gives multiple functionalities like uploading and download, backup, file sharing, mobile access,
edit documents and much more. [2]
 It gives user 50 free cloud storage, and also a trial version for 60 days. User can also select
multiple plans like personal plans (that gives 100GB cloud storage for $2.50 per month) and
business plan that gives 200GB cloud storage for $7 per month. [2]
 Personal plan includes 100 GB to 20TB cloud storage, while business plan includes 200GB to
unlimited cloud storage. [2]
 It also provides functionality of sharing files with others. [2]
(2.2)
Yes, it provides options for setting passwords and expiration dates for uploaded files. [3]
(2.3)
It can be considered as cheapest cloud storage service i.e $2.5 dollar for 100GB storage per
month, and a massive free storage of 50GB. It also provides backup and other sharing features. And yes,
it is available for both windows and MAC. [3]
(2.4)
One of the major drawback is that It gives basic interface which sometimes looks annoying such
as for mobile user it’s layout is quite plain, which dissatisfies some users and its another drawback is that
it is not ad free user has to go for premium version to get rid of ads. [3]
